Welcome to the Planet Power Pack Key Stage 2 Science resource page
'Planet Power' is a science-led, cross-curricular resource developed to support teachers within the KS2 curriculum framework. It provides a 'Tool Kit' containing three exciting and easy to assemble experiments that will help you deliver engaging lessons on renewable energy sources and other environmental themes.
If you are one of the 150 schools that signed up in time to receive a kit by post you should have received the following:
Sticker Sheets, with enough for two stickers per pupil
Pre-printed 'Planet Power' check list for your pupils to take home
and perform energy saving tasks for a week. This can then be
returned to school for entry into a 'Planet Power' competition
You may be planning to use your pack during the Autumn / Winter or Spring terms, so we have created two competition deadlines and you can enter your pupils for both!
Prize Pack:
Competition deadline is Friday 23rd April 2010:
One school will win £500 to spend on equipment
One pupil will win a wind up Eco media player
One pupil and their family will win an all expenses paid trip to the Eden Project in Cornwall, up to a value of £500
To bring this kit to life we have created some fantastic activities:
Downloadable Classroom Activity Sheets that bring the kit
experiments to life in the classroom.
Downloadable Homework Activity Sheets for pupils to carry out
their own supervised renewable energy experiments at home using
every day household items.
A downloadable 'Planet Power' certificate to give to every pupil who
completes their 'Planet Power' checklist.
Downloadable Teacher Support Notes to help guide you through
the process.
This project has been kindly supported by BAXI
This project has been funded by BAXI, boiler makers since 1886. BAXI is at the forefront of developing sustainable home heating products for the future, including solar, heat pumps and Ecogen - a gas boiler that generates useable electricity while it heats the home. This is the reason they have asked us to bring you this great resource. (click here for more information about Ecogen)
